Several African scholars and observers spoke in a discussion on the future of Somalia. Recently, the U.N. approved a unilateral military intervention in Somalia to ensure the distribution of humanitarian aid to its population. The country has been wracked with famine since the beginning of a civil war nearly two years earlier that hampered food distribution already affected by a drought. The analysts also speculated on the future of U.N. and U.S. policy concerning Somalia. The panelists responded to questions from reporters following their prepared remarks. close
