The House Banking Committee heard testimony from Secretary Bentsen, Chairman Greenspan, and representatives of financial oversight groups on oversight regulations for the nation’s savings and loan institutions. Earlier in the day, Secretary Bentsen, who chairs the Thrift Depositors Protection Oversight Board, requested $45 billion from Congress to continue cleaning up the nation’s failed savings and loans. close
