The Senate Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on Federal Services heard testimony on the federal licensing procedures on the importing and selling of firearms. The hearing was part of an investigation to limit handgun violence in the United States which was second only to car accidents in deaths with males 18-24 years of age. A sampling of firearms was displayed during the Chairman’s opening statement. Witnesses explained the current laws regarding importation of guns, licensing compliance and the ways guns get into the hands of non law abiding citizens. close
