Attorney General Janet Reno spoke in a news conference to reporters on the events of the day in Waco, Texas, where increased pressure by the FBI to end the siege of an armed religious cult ended in the fiery death of all but 10 of the approximately 90 cult members. The FBI had started poking holes in the cult’s compound with a battering ram and filling the house with tear gas when an apparently deliberately set fire broke out in the cult’s house. Attorney General Reno said she had made the decision to increase pressure on the cult, and said she had advised the president of the general plan but had not filled him in on the details. close
