Wisconsin Attorney General Doyle responded to questions from reporters outside the Supreme Court shortly after the court heard oral arguments in a case involving Wisconsin’s legislation against hate crimes. Mr. Doyle defended the state’s laws prescribing harsher sentences for defendants convicted for crimes against others based on the victim’s race or gender, saying the laws did not place restrictions on Americans' thoughts or beliefs. close
