Before formal debate on the reconciliation bill began, Senators Lamar Alexander (D-TN), Patty Murray (D-WA), and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) spoke about the legislation, which was designed to repeal major portions of the health care law. Senator Alexander traced the history leading up to the bill’s original passage five years ago, saying that President Obama would not listen to Republican ideas. Senator Murray said that the law was needed for families to have insurance and Planned Parenthood services. Senator Capito cited constituents who had been hurt by the law. close
