Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) opened the Senate talking about President Obama’s final State of the Union address that would be delivered that evening. He said the president had never ended his presidential campaign, blaming the president for a slow economic recovery, rising health care costs, and a shrinking middle class. Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) responded, giving the Obama administration credit for job creation, an unemployment rate of five percent, lowering the number of Americans without health insurance, and an increase in renewable energy production. close
