Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), sponsor of the Audit the Fed bill, said the Federal Reserve is “shrouded in secrecy,” not accountable, and creates money out of nowhere. He argued his bill would “pull back the curtain” to learn to which banks the central bank was lending money and paying interest. Senate Banking Committee Ranking Member Sherrod Brown (D-OH) spoke in opposition to the bill, saying it would “give conservative members of Congress more tools to second guess the Fed’s decision-making.” close
