Former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens talked about students' rights on campus and responded to questions from members of the audience at the University of Miami Donna E. Shalala Student Center. This was the opening keynote speech of the annual University of Miami Law Review's Symposium. The 2016 symposium, entitled “The Constitution on Campus: Do Students Shed Their Rights at the Schoolhouse Gates?” was inspired by Justice Stevens' June 2007 dissenting opinion on the case Morse v. Frederick about a “BONG HiTS sic 4 JESUS” banner displayed by a high school student. Justice Stevens talked about several related cases. close
