Witnesses testified at a hearing on the benefits of service dogs for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health issues. The panelists included the head of a non-profit organization that provides trained service canines and a Marine Corps veteran of the Afghanistan War who talked about how his service dog has helped him with his mental health disability. The witnesses also discussed related topics such as veteran suicide rates, opioid addiction, and a bill that would establish a pilot program within the Veterans Administration to provide veterans with service dogs. close
