President Bush welcomed Russian President Yeltsin with a formal statement outlining the need for continued cooperation between the two countries. He stated that the fall of communism has allowed the Russian people a freedom they have never before experienced. He also assured President Yeltsin that the U.S. will provide support to the Russian Republic to help introduce a demand driven economy. President Yeltsin stated that the U.S. must help the countries that once made up the Soviet Union to prevent totalitarian rule. He also mentioned the talks he and President Bush had concerning nuclear arms reduction. close
