Secretary of State John Kerry shares his views on the Vietnam War. Secretary Kerry served in the Vietnam War as a U.S. Navy Swift Boat commander and received a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts. He later became a vocal opponent of the war and testified before Congress in 1971. Following his remarks, Secretary Kerry spoke with filmmaker Ken Burns, whose 10-part, 18-hour documentary on the Vietnam War was scheduled to debut in 2017. His remarks were a keynote address at a three-day “Vietnam War Summit” held at the LBJ Presidential Library in Austin, Texas. Gregory Fenves and Ben Barnes provided introductory remarks. close
