House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) briefed reporters and responded to questions on his party’s legislative agenda. He said the House was getting “very close” to passing legislation on the Puerto Rico debt crisis as both the Resources Committee and Treasury Department were working in “good faith” on the legislation. The House was expected to miss a May 1, 2016, deadline to help Puerto Rico deal with $70 billion in debt. When asked about former House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-OH) comments about Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) being a “Lucifer in the flesh” and “a more miserable son…” Speaker Ryan warned the reporter to watch his language as there were children present for “Take Your Child to Work Day.” Speaker Ryan continued to say that “I have a very good relationship with both of these men, and I’m gonna keep it that way.” After the press conference Speaker Ryan took pictures with the children. close
