The town of Kingstree, South Carolina, hosted a ceremony to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s “March on Ballot Boxes” speech. On May 8, 1966, Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered a speech called “March on Ballot Boxes,” encouraging citizens of Kingstree, South Carolina, to exercise their right to vote. Representative James Clyburn delivered the keynote address, followed by footage from the speech, and the unveiling of a historical marker honoring the 1966 visit of the civil rights leader. close
