Vu Minh Khanh, wife of imprisoned human rights attorney Nguyen Van Dai, testified at a hearing on political prisoners in Vietnam. Nguyen Van Dai was detained by the Vietnamese government in December 2015 on charges of “conducting propaganda against the state.” Through an interpreter Ms. Vu talked about the events leading up to her husband’s arrest and how he has not been allowed access to family or defense lawyers. Committee Chair Christopher Smith (R-NJ), called on President Obama to seek his release and address human rights issues in Vietnam as conditions for any trade agreement with the country. close
