The newly sworn-in Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Civil Rights Roberta Achtenberg gave the keynote address at the 16th annual meeting of the National Association of Protection and Advocacy Systems. In her remarks, Assistant Secretary Achtenberg praised the work of HUD Secretary Cisneros and outlined the agenda of the department regarding the rights of the disabled in attaining housing. Her nomination had been hotly debated in the Senate during the previous month due to her sexual orientation. Mr. Manderscheid spoke after her on the Center for Mental Health Services. close
