President Trump spoke to reporters before his meeting with representatives from the National Rifle Association, the National Right to Life, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and other groups the administration had worked with while selecting a U.S. Supreme Court nominee and would be working with to get Judge Neil Gorsuch confirmed. He had attendees introduce themselves. In response to a question President Trump encouraged Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to invoke the so-called nuclear option to confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch to be the next Supreme Court justice. The president said the decision to invoke the nuclear option, which requires 51 votes instead of 60, was up to the majority leader, but his advice was to “go for it.” close
