The British House of Commons Petitions Committee held a debate on whether President Donald Trump’s visit to the U.K. should be a state visit. One week after he took office, British Prime Minister Theresa May invited the president for an official state visit to the U.K., scheduled for later this year. During the debate, several members called on the government to downgrade the state visit with all the pageantry to a regular bilateral visit. An online poll asking for the state visit to be downgraded received more than 1.8 million votes, while the counter petition supporting the visit received more than 300,000 votes. This is the first 90-minutes of the debate.
