Five scientists from NASA and the space agency’s research partners announced the discovery of seven Earth-like exoplanets orbiting a nearby star during a news conference at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The discovery was considered by the scientists to be of particular interest because it was the largest group of exoplanets found to date with life-sustaining characteristics. After presenting an overview of their findings on the TRAPPIST-1 system, the scientists answered questions from reporters there and on the telephone and from the public via social media. close
