Patrick Shanahan testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee on his nomination to be deputy defense secretary. Committee Chair John McCain (R-AZ) threatened to not vote for Mr. Shanahan saying his written answers on how to deal with Russian intervention in Ukraine were “very disappointing” and “disturbing.” Mr. Shanahan revised his previous statement, saying he supports equipping Ukraine with lethal defensive aid. Other topics included improving the defense acquisition process and prioritizing defense innovations. In addition, the nominee assured the committee that he would divest all ties with the Boeing Company. close
