Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar spoke before the Senate Finance Committee on the president’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2019. He answered questions on a range of issues including funding for Medicare and Medicaid, the opioid epidemic, community-based clinic training and autism. He also discussed the administration’s approach for lowering health care costs including prescription drugs. Mr. Azar was sworn in as HHS secretary in January 2018. He’s a former deputy secretary and general counsel of the department under President George W. Bush and was an executive with the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly. close
