Vice President George H.W. Bush spoke before a crowd in Joliet, IL, during his campaign for the presidency. The Vice President took part in a six-stop tour of Illinois on this visit. Illinois Governor James Thompson (R) spoke briefly before the crowd. Singer/songwriter Lee Greenwood performed a medley of songs and introduced Vice President Bush to the audience. The candidate’s speech highlighted his record in foreign affairs and military spending, pledged not to raise taxes, his commitment to Christian values in government and law. Following the speech, the Vice President shook hands and spoke individually with some members of the audience. close
