Mr. Witt and members of various government agencies spoke in a news conference to discuss the relief efforts underway for victims of the flooding of the Mississippi River in the Midwest. The river, engorged with rainwater from several weeks of precipitation, has overflowed its banks from Minnesota to Missouri, causing millions of dollars of damage to homes and farmland. The speakers discussed the engineering efforts to try to protect towns from extensive flooding and aid for victims already evacuated from their homes. close
