Following their weekly caucus luncheon, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and other members of Senate Republican leadership spoke to reporters. Senator McConnell voiced support for the NATO alliance and European allies, and said there was “indisputable evidence” Russia tried to interfere with the 2016 U.S.presidential election. His remarks came the day after President Trump voiced support for Russian President Vladimir Putin in a joint news conference following a private meeting in Helsinki, Poland. Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX) and Republican Conference Chair John Thune (R-SD) spoke about the ongoing confirmation process for Supreme Court Justice nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh and the timeline for judge’s confirmation hearings later in the summer or early fall. close
