House Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), along with other Democratic leaders, held a news conference on the government shutdown. The Democrats highlighted federal employees affected by the shutdown, including TSA workers and air traffic controllers, and called on the Senate to pass the House funding bills, which had previously received bipartisan support in the Senate. Representative Jeffries also commented on the controversy over Representative Steve King’s (R-IA) remarks on white supremacy and white nationalism. He said the best way forward would be a resolution of disapproval sponsored by House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) that Representative Jeffries said he expected would receive bipartisan support when voted on later that day. close
