The committee heard testimony from Mr. Rominger and other representatives of the Department of Agriculture and other federal agencies on relief for the farmers affected by the flooding of the Mississippi River. The record flooding in July and August destroyed corn and soybean acreage in states bordering the Mississippi from Minnesota to Missouri, resulting in greatly reduced yields and farm income. Mr. Rominger said the loss of crops was sufficient to affect the economies of the states affected by flooding, but not enough to affect the nation’s food supply. close
