In an excerpt from the session of the U.S. Senate, members debated a supplemental spending bill that would provide aid to people affected by the flooding of the Mississippi River in several Midwest states. Supporters of the legislation called for immediate relief for people desperately in need of aid, and noted the Congressional response to victims of hurricanes and earthquakes who received aid immediately following the disasters. close
