Former Supreme Court Associate Justice Arthur Goldberg first argues that the separation of church and state, inherent within the First Amendment, must be complete and unyielding. In relation to this, he discusses the issues of school prayer and government aid to religious schools. He proposes a three-part “lemon test” to determine when the wall between church and should be weakened. Secondly, Goldberg discusses freedom of religion. He argues that the First Amendment established a barrier between church and state in order to protect this freedom. Justice Goldberg answered audience questions. close
