C-SPAN CEO and Founder Brian Lamb emceed a ceremony at the U.S. Capitol celebrating the 200th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone for the U.S. Capitol. The ceremony came the night before the 200th anniversary which will be celebrated with a ceremony outside the U.S. Capitol. Former Senator Baker and Senator Byrd waxed poetic about the long and glorious history of the U.S. Capitol which houses “the ambition of humanity, thus far in the history of civilization.” Following speeches by Senators Baker and Byrd, the U.S. Capitol Historical Society presented the inaugural lifetime achievement award to the National Geographic Society. close
