The International Rushdie Defense Committee held an event at the National Press Club. The press conference came after a meeting between President Bill Clinton and Salman Rushdie, and hoped to address the Iranian legal ruling that Salman Rushdie should be killed for blasphemy. The resolution on Islamic law, referred to by the Arabic word fatwa, came in response to Mr. Rushdie’s novel "The Satanic Verses". Following a brief opening statement, Mr. Rushdie responded to questions from the audience. close
