Rep. Margolies-Mezvinsky delivered opening remarks at a conference she sponsored concerning federal entitlements and the impact they have on the federal deficit. She stated that partisan politics should be “put aside” so that the problem of entitlement spending can be addressed. The first-term representative invited President Clinton to speak at the summit during the Budget Reconciliation vote. The president agreed to speak at the summit in exchange for Rep. Margolies-Mezvinsky’s support during the reconciliation debate. close
