Following an introduction by the first lady, Mr. Grant presented the State of the World’s Children 1994 report to President Clinton. Mr. Grant summarized the report. After accepting the report, the president praised the work of the United Nations and UNICEF. He hopes that health care reform will improve the health of poverty-stricken children in the U.S. Prior to the event, a school children sang Christmas hymns including Silent Night. The president and the first lady stood in front of a large Christmas tree decorated with red bows and lights. They gave out certificates celebrating those people who have worked to help children and others throughout the world. close
