ASA officials gave their final report on what happened to the Mars Observer Satellite when NASA lost contact with it in August. The report offered possible reasons for the satellite’s failure. NASA ground controllers reported that they lost contact with the satellite three days before it was to enter orbit around Mars. Following prepared statements, the officials answered questions from reporters. Timothy Coffey is the chairman of the Mars Observer Mission Failure Board. close
