Secretary of Defense Les Aspin and Assistant Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness Edward Dorn discussed guidelines outlining new rules for women in combat. The Defense department planned to lift the so-called “risk rule” which prohibited women from serving in many combat jobs beginning on October 1, 1994. Following each of their remarks the men took questions from members of the press assembled at the Pentagon briefing room. close
