President Clinton spoke to Florida political supporters during a presidential dinner at the Sheraton Bal Harbour Hotel in Miami. The President praised the state of Florida for developing and passing a health care reform plan. “When we were putting together our national health program, we looked very closely at what Florida had done,” the President said. The President also outlineed several key elements of the national health care plan including the effort to guarantee private insurance for all Americans; ensure choice of doctors; eliminate unfair insurances practices; and ensure coverage for Medicare, long-term care, and prescription drugs. In his remarks, the President also covered aspects of the Crime Bill, welfare and unemployment reform, the school-to-work initiative and other educational incentives, and U.S. relations with Cuba and Haiti. close
