President Clinton visited the U.S. National Cemetery above Omaha

Beach in Colleville-sur-Mer, France. The president paid tribute to

the Americans who served in the Normandy campaign and those who lost

their lives in World War II. The president said that to build upon

the sacrifice of D-Day’s heroes we must expand freedom’s reach

forward.

This was the president’s primary address during the D-Day

ceremonies. During the speech, the President referred to his and

following generations as “the children of your sacrifice.” close
