This was a plenary session to discuss health care reform. Before discussing this issue, Governors Weld and Campbell made brief remarks, and Mayor Menino welcomed the governors to Boston. Also a group from a youth service program that originated in Boston made a presentation about their activities. Governor Campbell then presented the National Governors' Association Awards for public and private sector service and arts patronization. Senator Nickles spoke about the issues involved in health care reform, especially the differemces between Democrat and Republican proposals. After his prepared remarks, he took questions from the governors. Senator Mitchell spoke about the issues invloved in health care reform, especially the Democrat agenda for health care reform. After his prepared remarks, he took questions from the governors. Governors Voinovich, Sundlun and Nelson spoke about the possibility of state governments being obligated by the federal government to pay for certain parts of health care reform. Governors Leavitt and Allen then spoke about the larger issue of the relationship between state governments and the federal government. close
