At the Department of Justice, President Clinton, Attorney General Reno, Dr. Lee Brown, Secretary Bentsen, Congressman Brooks, Senator Biden, and Portland, Oregon Police Chief Charles Moose rallied for passage of the Crime Bill. The President reminded those present that the Bill is not yet law, and urged them to “send the message out” that the law enforcement community and the American people want a 20 percent increase in police forces, tougher punishment, the capacity for imprisonment, crime prevention funds, and other provisions contained in the Crime Bill. close
