President Clinton announced the retirement this month of Treasury Secretary Bentsen, thanking him for his contributions to the administration. The president said, “I’m really going to miss you.” Mr. Bentsen thanked the president and also expressed regrets. After serving 22 years in the U.S. Senate and almost two years on the Clinton cabinet, he is returning to his home state of Texas to enter private business. The president then introduced White House economic adviser Robert Rubin as his choice to be the next Treasury secretary, although this nomination must be confirmed by the Senate. Mr. Rubin also spoke briefly. close
