The Democratic Leadership Council and the Progressive Policy Institute sponsored a post-election policy forum to analyze the results of the 1994 midterm elections. In opening remarks, DLC chair David McCurdy described the Clinton administration as confusing to the electorate in trying to create moderate and liberal policies at the same time. He said that the President “has governed as a transitional figure, for, while Bill Clinton has the mind of a new Democrat, he retains the heart of an old Democrat.” This description was controversial and reportedly upset President Clinton, who was a founder and former chairman of the DLC. close
