Friends, relatives, political advisers and U.S. Representative Newt Gingrich himself discussed the life and political ideas and career of the incoming Speaker of the House. The last fifty-five minutes of the program is an interview with Rep. Gingrich at the Atlanta Zoo from Friday December 30, 1994. He was born in Harrisburg, PA on June 17, 1943. He earned a B.A. in history from Emory University and a P.H.D. from Tulane University. He taught history at West Georgia College from 1970 to 1974. He lost House races in 1974 and 1976, but won in 1978 and has served in the House ever since. close
