Attorney General Janet Reno and other administration officials briefed reporters on the further implementation of the 194 Crime Bill. She has been updating reporters periodically on local enactment of the bill, which calls for the hiring of 100,000 new police officers. She also discussed a new Republican-sponsored anti-crime bill now being debated in the House that would replace the 1994 law’s nearly $9 billion outlay for new police officers with $10 billion in grants to local authorities to use in their choice of anti-crime programs. close
