He spoke on a wide range of topics including: his effort to the American dream; the role of the federal government; the Republican contract opposed to his New Covenant; deficit reduction; and reinventing government initiatives. The president incorporated the following specific policy issues into his remarks: unfunded federal mandates; education reform; the crime bill; AmeriCorps; school lunches; welfare reform; child support enforcement; and teen pregnancy. close
