Marc Fisher discussed his book, [After the Wall: Germany, the Germans

and the Burdens of History], published by Simon and Schuster. The

book examines the relationship between East and West Germany after the

fall of the Berlin wall in 1989. Mr. Fisher, who served as the Washington Post's bureau chief in Bonn and Berlin from 1989 to 1994, draws on personal interviews to conclude that the country is sharply divided and that East Germans continue to see themselves as second-class citizens. close
