The Senate Special Whitewater Committee held a hearing on the investigation of the suicide of Deputy White House Counsel Vince Foster and the handling of his papers on the night of his death by White House Counsel Bernard Nussbaum. Republicans on the committee believed that aides obstructed the investigation of Foster’s death to keep potentially embarrassing material from surfacing. Mr. Foster handled many of the president’s and first lady’s sensitive political and personal matters. The committee wants access to Whitewater Land Development Corporation files. Committee members heard testimony from Webster Hubbell, Associate Attorney General for Civil Rights at the Justice Department, concerning the events surrounding the death of Deputy White House Counsel Vincent Foster. close
