Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Ms. LeBrecht discussed the legislative agenda for House of Representatives which returns from August break today. In the newspaper roundtable, Mayor Morial and Rep. Shays talked about the morning headline stories. In the point-counterpoint segment, Mr. Boulet and Mr. Yzaguirre debated whether English should be the official language of the U.S. Senator Specter, chair of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Terrorism, talked about the continuing Ruby Ridge hearings via remote connection from the hearing room. Ms. Lee described an ad campaign the Coalition for Change is launching today in support of a balanced federal budget. Mr. Malashenko talked about the puppet show “Kukly” which features sketches of Russian President Yeltsin and other government figures. close
