Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Ms. Alloway talked about the space walk by telephone while C-SPAN showed live footage of the event. In the point-counterpoint segment, Mr. Dykema, who is legislative director for Rep. Rohrabacher, and Mr. St. Croix, who is a senior legislative assistant for Rep. Roemer, debated whether federal funding for scientific research should be reduced. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. Hoffman, who is legislative director for Senator Pressler, and Ms. Robinson discussed current news stories including welfare and Medicare reform and funding for scientific research. close
