Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the monring newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Hager talked about current news stories, including President Clinton’s recent speech in which he stated that the American people are in a “funk” and the struggle over the federal budget. In a brief live interview, Mr. Sturdivant talked about the impact of a possible government shutdown on federal employees. In the newspaper roundtalbe, Mr. Segal and Ms. Healy talked about current headlines, including Ross Perot’s decision to attempt to form a third party. In the final segment, Mr. Sullivan talked about military commissaries, which are places where active and retired service personnel can buy goods at discount prices. close
