White House Press Secretary Mike McCurry announced that there would be no meeting between White House Chief of Staff Leon Panetta and Republican leaders to resolve the impasse over the continuing resolution and debt limit extension because Republicans refused to meet with Mr. Panetta. Mr. McCurry also announced that President Bill Clinton had cancelled a scheduled trip to Boston on Monday due to the crisis and took a few reporters' questions. White House Budget Director Alice Rivlin then outlined the administration’s contingency plans for shutting down non-essential services on November 14th she also took questions from members of the press. close
