Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Ms. Ambrose talked about current headlines, including the budget reconciliation process. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. Bush and Mr. Bristow talked about current issues, including the budget and U.S. Cuba policy. Ms. Edelman talked about her book, Guide My Feet, and about the current debate over social programs designed to aid poor children as part of the overall federal budget. In the next segment, Mr. Keisling talked about Oregon’s Senate primary race for Senator Packwood’s seat which the state conducted by mail. In the final segment, several persons by remote, telephone and in the studio discussed the environmental issues involved in the debate over balancing the budget. Ms. Miller and Ms. Reinwand focused on the impact of this debate on Alaska. close
